RECORD REVIEW-Dan Melchior's Broke Review- Lords Of The Manor

"In The Red" Records was kind enough to send us a lovely stack of vinyl LP's from their current catalog. This reporter's personal favorite is the pleasantly surprising, Lords Of The Manor, by Dan Melchior's Broke Review. This 2015 release contains a simplicity that is both adventurous and engaging. It draws from many influences including, the primal garage essence of the Stooges, Sid-era Pink Floyd and the throbbing, slightly heavy, reggae bass of  the mighty Jah Wobble, yet possesses a sound and style all it's own. While maintaining a consistent signature feeling, this album doesn't get bogged down in any one groove for too long, remaining continually inventive and fresh.

Dan Melchior grew up in Shepperton, Surrey, just outside of London, and in addition to many solo efforts has also collaborated on projects with the likes of Billy Childish, and Holly Golightly. The Broke Review has released three albums, plus several singles and EPs, and has toured supporting the White Stripes, Mudhoney, the Fall, Interpol and the John Spencer Blues Explosion.

Melchior relocated to the United States in 1998, first taking residence in Manhattan and then settling down in Durham, North Carolina. Since relocating in the States, Dan has released six singles, a twelve-inch EP, three LP albums, and continues to add quality recordings to his growing solo catalog, which is quite extensive and recommended. You can check Dan's music out at better record stores or at the following online stores:

RECORD REVIEW

Egrets On Ergot-Serve US Tender

"Punk Rock" exploded onto the scene in the Mid-Seventies, and quickly evolved in many directions under various sub-monikers. By the end of the decade a major, much more complex and diverse movement within the punk universe had developed, a movement referred to as "Post Punk".
Not unlike the prior progression of 60's rock into Psychedelia and beyond, Post Punk brought us far-reaching music from groups such as: Public Image LTD, The Pop Group, Bauhaus, Christian Death, The Birthday Party, 23 Skidoo, Throbbing Gristle, and many more artists who explored the boundaries of alternative music.

For those of you who are yearning for something a bit more challenging than the ubiquitous modern-day simple 3-chord punk rehash groups that seem to overpopulate today's music scene, Egrets on Ergot are well worth checking out. The band's debut EP, Serve US Tender, draws inspiration from not only the Post Punk movement, but other diverse resources including, Goth, Garage, Rock and Blues influences.
The vinyl release of this six song collection features a high quality pressing with a unique cover and libretto insert.

Formed in 2011, by founding members, Adam Brooks (vocals and alto sax) and the lovely and talented Heather Galipo (guitars),
who also performs with the Deadbeats, and a Crass tribute band. Eventually the group added drummer, Matt Sherin and bassist Daniel Munoz, comprising the band as we know it today. They can be seen frequently performing along the West Coast, particularly in Southern California, and recently completed a tour which ventured into the Southeastern United States, highlighted by their performance at the San La Muerte Fest, in Texas.

In addition to this current release, the band is completing work on an upcoming album and tour, which will commence in April, 2016. They are also busy completing production of three videos, the first of which is scheduled for imminent release. Egrets on Ergot is truly a noteworthy ensemble that you'll want to keep your eye on, especially if you enjoy the music of groups like: Bauhaus, The Butthole Surfers, Gun Club, The Pop group, The Birthday Party, Christian Death, The Seeds and
Lydia Lunch.

Produced by the prolific studio engineer/musician, Paul Roessler, Serve US Tender is available in vinyl, cd and digital download formats, and can be ordered online or at discriminating record stores worldwide.
