RECORD REVIEW: THE PUNCTURISTS
"I'M NOT ALRIGHT"

The Puncturists (Punk Tourists), is a four piece combo, hailing from Barnsley, South Yorkshire UK
Their new album, "I'm Not Alright" is reminiscent of an earlier time, when UK Punk was young and idealistic, but the band also introduces a mature introspection to their lyrics.

The 11 songs on the LP feature bold, up front, and riff heavy guitar stylings, provided by Patrick Crawford, which is complemented by singer, Gail Townsend's pointed and melodic lead vocals. The rhythm section consists of Dale Farrow, on Bass/keyboards, and Martin Gregory, on drums.

Several members of the band contribute vocals, with male and female voices often trading back-and-forth. It can be a bit like the vocal stylings of groups like the Crass, or Chumbawamba at times.

The songwriting contains themes that often reflect on the difficulties of modern life, offering hope for one's personal problems, plus respect and understanding for the struggles of others. Those thoughts are presented well through some of the song titles like, "Pissing Me Off", "Everybody's On Drugs", They Don't Pay Support Bands", and the title track, "I'm Not Alright".

The Puncturists new single, "55" is a song describing vocalist Gail's challenges, related to joining a punk band for the first time, at a mature age. You can preview the song at the following link:

The band formed their own record company, Dead Swan Records, and you can buy their music either off of Bandcamp, or from them directly at their website:

In summary, the Puncturists offer some kick ass punk rock music, that plays well, with the volume turned up loud!

NEW-OLD PUNK ROCK, FROM 1983

It was actually 1984 when Kirk Jamgotchian got together with Shane Hunt, and a couple other friends in Placentia, CA to form the hardcore punk band, Conflicting Interests. They played countless shows and parties throughout the '80s, along with other popular local groups such as, D.I., TSOL, and Social Distortion.

In 1985, they recorded a nine song demo, which saw limited release, as a now sought after single sided cassette, and some of the tracks were also featured on a couple of Mystic Records sampler albums.

Since then, the band changed their name to 1983, and relocated to Florida. They've continued to perform, tour, and record new material, including the album "Beginning Of The End", the "Placentia" EP, and their new effort which is named, "NE3".

The new album title stands for "Nineteen Eighty 3", in an attempt to get better search results online. The music retains their distinctive, melodic, hardcore style, while adding a new level of maturity to their music and lyrics. Each song seems to have something to do with getting older, and doing either too much or too little...

The LP contains thirteen brand new original tracks, plus a hardcore cover version of the 1982 INSX classic, "Don't Change". The current lineup features Kirk Jamgotchian on guitar and vocals, Shane Hunt on guitar, John Solis on Drums, and Rocky Rucker on Bass

You can find out more about 1983, their recordings, touring schedule, and even watch video samples of the band playing live, at their website www.1983punks.com and also on Instagram under 1983theband.
